Abstract

Researchers have increasingly used the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to evaluate the acceptance of CALL materials. However, as in other areas of language education, technology-enhanced L2 listening remains under-researched. To address this gap, this exploratory work was conducted in two stages: In stage1, we outline the design and validation process of the Technology-enhanced Listening Task Acceptance (TeLTA) questionnaire. The aim is to establish a reliable and valid instrument that can be employed in various contexts to assess acceptance levels and motivational components of platforms devoted to L2 listening development. In stage 2, we investigate the levels of acceptance and motivational components of the Ideasforlistening platform using the TeLTa questionnaire. The participants were 9th graders from two intact classes in Chile. Findings show that: (1) The TeLTA questionnaire demonstrates good reliability in measuring acceptance levels and motivational components of L2 listening platforms; (2) the Ideasforlistening platform is perceived as a useful environment that helps listeners develop listening processes awareness; (3) the platform is easy to use; and (4) the platform encourages listeners’ autonomy and provides them with a sense of competence. However, improvements are needed in areas related to fostering a sense of relatedness. We provide suggestions for further research and invite scholars to use the TeLTA questionnaire in their own research contexts.
