Abstract

This article analyses a sodomy prosecution in 1897 through the examination of documents held in the National Archive of Chile relating to the prosecution, the defence, the actors, the oral and medical evidence presented and the procedures of the judicial system of that time. Concepción, a city in the south of Chile, is the scene of these proceedings, brought by Alfonso Merino against José Francisco Eade, whom he accused of sexual assault.
